Government Degree College Nandasain

Government Degree College, Nandasain was established in the year 2015 under the aegis of the Department of Higher Education, Government of Uttarakhand, with the singular purpose of bringing accessible and affordable higher education to the youth of the remote Himalayan hill region. Situated in the village of Nandasain, near Nauti, in the Adibadri tehsil of Chamoli district, the college occupies a serene setting amid the Garhwal Himalayas, at approximately 30.0539° North latitude and 79.2865° East longitude, at an elevation that places it firmly within the mid-Himalayan belt overlooking the Alaknanda valley.

Before the college was established, students from Nandasain, Nauti, and the surrounding villages had to travel long distances, often several hours by bus, to reach the nearest degree college. The founding of GDC Nandasain changed that reality, allowing hundreds of first-generation learners, particularly young women from the hill villages, to pursue a Bachelor's degree without leaving their home region. In this sense, the college is as much a social institution as an academic one, anchoring the aspirations of an entire community of hill villages within a short and manageable distance.

The college is affiliated to Sridev Suman Uttarakhand University, Badshahithaul, Tehri Garhwal, and is recognised by the University Grants Commission under Sections 2(f) and 12(B). It has been accredited Grade 'B+' by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council, a reflection of its steady progress in teaching quality, governance, and student support since inception. The Faculty of Arts currently offers a three-year Bachelor of Arts programme across six well-established subjects — Hindi, English, Sanskrit, Political Science, Economics, and Sociology — taught by a dedicated faculty committed to both classroom instruction and the personal growth of their students.
